Head of the FDFA Ignazio Cassis receives his counterpart from Laos

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis received the Laotian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith in Bern on Monday for an official working visit. The talks focused on the development of bilateral relations, Switzerland's partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) and the geopolitical situation.
Political, economic and consular relations between Switzerland and the Lao People's Democratic Republic have intensified in recent years, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) announced on Monday. This dynamic is in line with the objectives of the Federal Council's Southeast Asia Strategy 2023-2026, which aims to strengthen Switzerland's relations with the countries in this region.
Switzerland's participation in various high-level meetings of Asean, which Laos is chairing this year, was also discussed, as was development cooperation.
