Ice hockey Nats continue to wear the crest on their jerseys for the time being

The Swiss national ice hockey teams will be allowed to wear the Swiss crest on their jerseys for the next two years. The association will then redesign the jerseys at the start of 2027.
Swiss Ice Hockey and the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property have agreed on this. The discussion about the Swiss coat of arms is now over, Swiss Ice Hockey wrote in a statement on Thursday. The agreement is a good one for the association.
In principle, only the Confederation has been permitted to use the coat of arms since the revised Coat of Arms Protection Act came into force in 2017. However, companies and clubs had the opportunity to apply for permission for continued use within two years - if they had been using the coat of arms for 30 years. However, the ice hockey association missed the deadline.
The decision also means that Swiss Ice Hockey accepts a decision made by the Federal Administrative Court in mid-October. The court had ruled that the Institute of Intellectual Property was right not to consider an application submitted late by the association.
Efforts are currently underway in parliament to amend the law. The Council of States and the responsible National Council committee want Swiss national teams to be allowed to wear the Swiss coat of arms on their jerseys again in future.
Swiss Ice Hockey has taken note of these efforts. According to the communiqué, the redesign of the jerseys is subject to a change in the law.
