IG öffentlicher Verkehr sees inclusivity of public transport under threat

The Public Transport Interest Group (IGÖV) believes that the inclusivity of public transport is under threat, as it announced on Monday. In particular, the removal of ticket machines in rural areas would lead to restrictions for certain groups of people.
Good accessibility and the ability to purchase tickets on the spot are of crucial importance. This would ensure that people of all ages could use public transport, especially older people and young people without cell phones, the IGÖV continued.
According to current data, around 500,000 of the 1.8 million pensioners in Switzerland travel without a cell phone or smartphone, and one in three tickets are purchased in analog form. IGÖV therefore called for the maintenance of ticket machines in rural areas, the safeguarding of multiple-journey tickets, the examination of alternative purchasing methods, the guarantee of saver tickets and discounts for analog ticket purchases as well as attractive offers for newcomers.
The IGÖV consists of nine regional sections with 1150 members. It campaigns for public transport in politics and in public.
