Drivers of cross-border delivery vans must comply with working and rest time regulations in future. The Federal Council has decided on a corresponding amendment, which is in line with regulations in the EU. The government is thus fulfilling a parliamentary proposal.
As in the EU, the adjustment will apply from July 1, 2026, as announced by the Federal Council on Wednesday. Nothing will change for traffic within Switzerland.
The change would affect full-time drivers of delivery vans between 2.5 and 3.5 tons in the cross-border transport of goods. They would have to adhere to the same rules as truck drivers.
The affected delivery vans must be equipped with an intelligent tachograph, the statement continued. Around 1,200 vehicles and a maximum of 3,200 people are affected by this new regulation in Switzerland.
