A 59-year-old Iranian man must undergo inpatient treatment for killing a fellow countryman under the influence of drugs in Sissach BL in January 2023. This was decided by the criminal court in Muttenz on Thursday.
He had committed the murder in a state of incompetence, it was stated at the sentencing. The court decided not to expel him from the country.
According to the public prosecutor's office in Basel, the accused visited the 63-year-old victim in his apartment in Sissach on the morning of January 31, 2023, where they had consumed cocaine, heroin and other drugs together in the living room. An argument ensued and the 59-year-old killed his compatriot with a knife.
According to an expert opinion, the 59-year-old suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. It can therefore be assumed that the man has lost his capacity for insight and control and is not culpable.
