Investigators have made a breakthrough in the search for 15-year-old Lina, who has been missing for ten months in Alsace. The gendarmerie have identified a car that was nearby at the time of the teenager's disappearance, the public prosecutor's office in Strasbourg announced on Friday.

Traces of the teenager's DNA were found in the stolen car. The circumstances under which the teenager got into the car are now being investigated. The public prosecutor's office expressed confidence that the breakthrough in the manhunt would make it possible to locate Lina.

The public prosecutor's office did not comment on any arrests or suspects.

The 15-year-old disappeared on the three-kilometer walk to Saint-Blaise-la-Roche train station on 23 September last year. The teenager wanted to go to Strasbourg to see her boyfriend, but never made it there. Two witnesses saw her on the way to the station.

However, the investigators know that she did not get on the train at all. There have been extensive, but so far fruitless, searches, in which the German police have also been involved at times.

Based on witness statements, the investigators had searched for different types of cars in the course of the manhunt. The car that has now been discovered then came to the attention of the investigators, but the police have kept this to themselves until now.
