Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter has denied the poisonous climate in the Federal Council that has been reported by the parliamentary audit committees: "Things are going very well at the moment. We have an open culture of discussion and debate."

However, the coronavirus period, which the GPK investigated as part of the coronavirus leaks, was indeed not easy due to the many indiscretions, Keller-Sutter said in an interview with the SonntagsZeitung newspaper. "In the meantime, however, cooperation is really good again. It's like in any relationship: sometimes things happen that leave scars. But then you have to pull yourself together again. It's no different in the Federal Council." As an example, she cited the cooperation between all departments for the 2024 budget: "That was not a given."

The Finance Minister also spoke about the Federal Council's report on the regulation of systemically important banks, which is to be submitted to Parliament by the spring. "One thing is clear: we need to strengthen Finma, higher liquidity and equity capital buffers are also being examined, and the resolvability of a systemically important bank must be improved in the event of a crisis," said Keller-Sutter.

She also described it as offensive that the management of Credit Suisse (CS) would not have to expect any consequences following the forced merger with UBS under a state protective shield. "I am personally of the clear opinion that people who mismanage a company like CS must be held accountable," said Keller-Sutter. "To make this possible in the future, the legal hurdles may have to be lowered."
