Construction machinery manufacturer Liebherr Machines in Bulle is planning temporary short-time working for 350 employees from July. A corresponding application has been submitted to the canton.
A company spokesperson confirmed a corresponding report on Tuesday, which appeared in the newspaper "La Liberté" on Saturday. Capacity at the Bulle site would be temporarily adjusted due to the order situation. The employees affected were informed on June 5.
Demand for combustion engines and hydraulic components has been adversely affected by low economic growth and the development of energy and raw material prices. The economic situation has become even more tense in recent months. Demand for construction machinery has fallen more sharply than expected, particularly among the main customers in Europe.
According to the newspaper report, the measure will initially apply for three months, but could be extended until the end of the year. Liebherr Machines employs around 1500 people in Bulle.
