According to a study, three out of five people in Switzerland reject a ban on immigration to control immigration. However, a majority of respondents also believe that open borders are not a solution.

According to the "Opportunities Barometer 2024" study published in Lucerne on Monday, a ban on immigration for people outside the EU/EFTA would only be rejected by a narrow margin. The political integration of residents with foreign citizenship or the construction of more roads were also only narrowly rejected as measures to control immigration.

On the other hand, more than 70 percent agreed with the expansion of public transport, working beyond AHV retirement age and more daycare centers in order to make better use of the domestic workforce potential. More than 6,300 people from all parts of the country were surveyed by the Demoscope polling institute on behalf of the private Larix Foundation for the 10 Million Switzerland study.
