A 49-year-old man who allegedly killed his wife in Bergdietikon AG in September 2022 will stand trial before the District Court of Baden AG from today, Monday. The verdict is scheduled to be delivered on Friday afternoon.
The public prosecutor's office classifies the crime as murder and demands a prison sentence of 18 years. The defense's motions will be announced at the main hearing. According to the public prosecutor's office, the accused himself has confessed. The Swiss national is currently serving an early sentence.
On the morning of September 25, 2022, a Sunday, the accused called 911. He reported that his wife had locked herself in the bathroom and was not responding to calls. The emergency services kicked in the bathroom door but could only discover that the 41-year-old had died.
The situation initially suggested a suicide. However, inconsistencies emerged during the investigation and the forensic experts determined that the woman had been strangled. The day after the body was found, the husband was arrested under urgent suspicion.
Exclusion of the public
The hearing, which is scheduled to last several days, will take place on the premises of the cantonal police in Schafisheim AG. The public is excluded, but members of the media are admitted.
At the time, the murder made waves, particularly in the Albanian diaspora. The victim was a 41-year-old business expert with Kosovan-Albanian roots. Her husband, who was naturalized in Switzerland more than 20 years ago, is originally of Albanian descent from North Macedonia.
