Following a fatal argument in Tavannes in mid-September, the police are now assuming that it was a case of involuntary manslaughter or an accident. A man who was arrested in connection with the incident was released from custody on Tuesday.
Based on the latest findings, there are no indications of a deliberate act by the 43-year-old accused, as the regional public prosecutor's office and the Bern cantonal police announced on Wednesday.
The fight broke out on the evening of September 20 on the Grand-Rue in Tavannes. When the police arrived shortly after 22, they found two people injured. A 37-year-old man succumbed to them.
The man died of stab wounds, as the police announced shortly afterwards. They arrested a 43-year-old suspect who was only slightly injured and carried out extensive investigations into the background to the altercation. These investigations are continuing, as the police wrote in a statement on Wednesday.
