After the fire at a recycling center in Reconvilier BE the day before, material was still burning in the hall on Wednesday. The police advised residents to keep windows and doors closed.
The firefighters brought the fire under control, as the Bernese Jura cantonal governor's office and the Bernese cantonal police wrote in a press release on Wednesday. However, extinguishing work is still underway. A large part of the material stored in the hall is still on fire.
Due to the instability of the hall, access for the firefighters was difficult. A crane was therefore used to remove part of the roof so that the firefighters could access the inside of the hall from above.
According to the authorities, the firefighters were present throughout the night to prevent the fire from breaking out again. The material is now being secured and completely extinguished.
The smoke that was still rising from the ruins of the fire on Wednesday morning is harmless, according to the authorities. The smoke was visible for miles around Reconvilier.
On Tuesday morning, a fire broke out in a hangar at the recycling center on Rue du Moulin in Reconvilier. No one was injured. The authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
