The Meilen District Court will hand down its verdict today, Monday, in the case of a 51-year-old former commander of the Swiss Guard. The accused is alleged to have threatened a man with a chainsaw. The accused denies the allegations.
In November 2022, the former Swiss Guard commander and former head of the Glarus criminal investigation department allegedly started up a chainsaw in a garden on Lake Zurich.
According to the indictment, he used it to threaten his former partner's ex-boyfriend, approached her house and waved the running chainsaw in front of the windows and door. The completely terrified woman, with whom he has a child, was in the house at the time and saw the accused through the window. The ex-boyfriend alerted the police.
The public prosecutor's office is demanding a conditional prison sentence of 10 months and a fine of CHF 1,000 for the former security specialist. He is also to undergo therapy.
However, the former Swiss Guard commander reported the alleged victim himself. The latter had threatened him with a chainsaw. The victim's lawyer, however, described the counter-charge as a defense strategy. The verdict at the Meilen district court will be opened at 9 am.
Once the municipal clerk of Zermatt
At the time of the chainsaw incident, the 51-year-old accused was the municipal clerk of Zermatt. Because he suddenly stopped showing up at his workplace, his lawyer at the time informed the media that the municipal clerk was "taking some time off".
It later emerged that he had been remanded in custody in Zurich for around three months. This meant he lost his job as municipal clerk, as well as his position as head of security at the 2025 Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival in Glarus.
It was not the first trial against the Swiss national, who once also worked in a management position with the Zurich cantonal police. Back in January 2021, he stood trial in Zurich District Court for allegedly stalking and threatening another former partner. The court sentenced him to a conditional fine at the time. This sentence has since become final.
