Since the outbreak of forest fires on the Greek island of Rhodes, the Helpline of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) has received more than 100 inquiries about the situation on the island. Among the evacuees are Swiss citizens. The EDA is closely monitoring the situation and the Swiss Embassy in Athens is in contact with the local authorities. An additional consular officer is on his way to Rhodes to support the Honorary Consulate and to assist Swiss nationals if necessary. Swiss citizens abroad and tourists are advised to follow the instructions of the local authorities. The airport on the island is still operating normally, and a Swiss flight was carried out as planned on Sunday afternoon. Many Swiss citizens have reported having to flee their hotels due to the fires. Since Saturday, numerous villages and hotels have been evacuated on Rhodes due to the large uncontrolled forest fires. Thousands of tourists and locals have tried to leave the island due to the fires.
