A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision with a car on Sunday in the canton of Vaud. He had lost control of his two-wheeler on a bend in the Bois à la Dame district in the municipality of Trélex, not far from Nyon.

When he fell, he crashed heavily into the front of an oncoming car. Despite resuscitation attempts, the victim died at the scene of the accident, the Vaud cantonal police announced on Monday. The victim was a Portuguese national living in the region.

A second motorcyclist, who was driving in the opposite direction, was surprised by the maneuver of the first and also crashed when he swerved and landed on a lower embankment. The 17-year-old Swiss national was slightly injured. The driver of the car, a 48-year-old Frenchman, was uninjured.

The public prosecutor's office has launched a criminal investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. The police are looking for witnesses to the accident.
