National Council calls for aids for secondary school pupils with learning difficulties

The National Council is calling for aids for pupils with learning difficulties so that they can cope with the curriculum at grammar schools. On Thursday, it adopted a motion from the centrist parliamentary group.
The National Council approved the motion by Sydney Kamerzin (center/VS) on Thursday by 99 votes to 82 with seven abstentions. The motion now goes to the Council of States. According to Kamerzin, around 8 percent require so-called compensation for disadvantages. He called for a nationally harmonized approval of aids.
The motion calls for changes to the law so that young people with dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysorthography are given suitable aids at grammar schools. We are talking about computers with appropriate software and other measures. This is important for professional integration.
The Federal Council rejected the motion and referred to the responsibility of the cantons. They and the Swiss Baccalaureate Commission (SMK) are responsible for compensating for disadvantages. The SMK has the authority to issue nationwide guidelines, said Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin. These guidelines should be published in the fall.
