The National Council is ready to discuss the revised CO2 Act for the period from 2024 in detail. All parliamentary groups want to debate the bill and be able to apply the law from 2025. The SVP warns against new expenditure, while the SP believes the provisions do not go far enough.
The revised CO2 Act for 2025 to 2030 is intended to help Switzerland achieve its 2050 net-zero target. Switzerland has committed to this under the Paris Climate Agreement. By 2030, Switzerland should halve its greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990.
On Wednesday and probably also on Thursday, the National Council will decide on the domestic share of emissions reduction, more environmentally friendly aviation fuels, an incentive tax for flights with private and business jets and the promotion of charging stations for electric vehicles.
Federal subsidies are also under discussion. Between 2025 and 2030, these are to be used for renewable energies, cross-border rail transport and electric drive technologies, among other things.
