According to the National Council, Switzerland should not join the international task force to track down Russian oligarch money (repo). The large chamber has rejected a corresponding motion from the Green parliamentary group. This is therefore off the table.
On Wednesday, the National Council voted against the motion by Franziska Ryser (Greens/SG) by 101 votes to 80, with six abstentions. The SVP, the FDP and individual members of the center and GLP expressed their opposition. The Council followed a strong minority of its Foreign Affairs Committee (FAC-N).
The latter found that the current cooperation with the task force was functioning adequately and had concerns about Switzerland's independence.
The majority of the Commission had been of the opinion that Switzerland needed to do more to ensure that the sanctions against Russia adopted after the attack on Ukraine were fully implemented.
