For the National Council, the Federal Council wants to hastily relax certain requirements for Swiss Post. On Tuesday, it approved a motion whose authors are calling for a temporary waiver of a revision of the Postal Ordinance.
In June, the Federal Council announced that in future, the postal service would only have to deliver 90% of letters and parcels on time. The obligation to deliver mail to every house that is inhabited all year round is also to be dropped. This should save Swiss Post up to 45 million francs a year from 2026.
By the end of February 2025, the responsible department should submit a consultation draft for a corresponding revision of the Postal Ordinance. This will be followed by a revision of the Postal Act.
The motion submitted by the National Council's Committee for Transport and Telecommunications (KVF-N) now wants the Federal Council to submit a revision of the Postal Act to Parliament and for no minor changes to be made until then via a revision of the Postal Ordinance.
