The vaccination against this year's flu has been available since mid-October. Unvaccinated people can now be vaccinated spontaneously against the disease on National Flu Vaccination Day on Friday in over 1200 pharmacies and numerous doctors' surgeries. The flu epidemic does not usually start until December.
People over 65, the chronically ill, premature babies from the sixth month and pregnant women should be vaccinated, as the initiators of the vaccination day announced on Wednesday. Vaccination is also recommended for people who have regular contact with this group of people or with babies under six months of age. People in contact with poultry or wild birds are also recommended.
The best time to get vaccinated is between mid-October and the start of the flu epidemic. This usually arrives in Switzerland in January or February. The national vaccination day is an initiative of the College of General Practitioners (KHM) in collaboration with the Swiss Medical Association (FMH), the Swiss Pharmacists' Association (PharmaSuisse) and the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).
