The best Swiss press photos of 2023 will be on display at the Swiss National Library in Bern from Wednesday. They provide a retrospective of the past year, as the museum announced on Tuesday.

The "Swiss Press Photo 24" exhibition at the Fondation Reinhardt von Graffenried is divided into the categories of current affairs, everyday life, Swiss stories, portraits, sport and abroad. There is also space for the "Swiss Press Photographer of the Year", NZZ photographer Dominic Nahr, with his reports from crisis regions.

The topicality category covers everything from the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to the Federal Council elections and the end of Credit Suisse. People living on a campsite are shown in the everyday life category. There is also space for the suicide of an old man with the euthanasia organization Exit.

The Swiss History category features a series of images revolving around a man who disappeared without trace from Lake Walen in 2012. The portrait category includes black and white shots of pianist Yuja Wang at the Verbier Festival.

The Sport category is characterized by contrasts - humorous pictures of the hobby of horseracing are contrasted with a series of photos from the Tour de Suisse, where the fatally injured cyclist Gino Mäder is mourned. The foreign category includes a report on the earthquake in Morocco.

The exhibition at the National Library is on display until October 11.
