The Neuchâtel Cantonal Bank (BCN) is further restricting the availability of its ATMs due to the increase in bomb attacks in the region. As of (today) Tuesday, BCN ATMs will be emptied and taken out of service at a total of five locations.
BCN in Fleurier is suspending the operation of two ATMs until further notice, as the cantonal bank announced on Tuesday. The counters in the branch will remain available and the Multimat can be used between 5 am and 10 pm. ATMs in Areuse (Centre de l'Ile), Cressier, Le Landeron (Migros) and Neuchâtel (Monruz) are also out of service.
At the end of May, BCN had already announced the closure of its ATMs in Les Verrières, Les Ponts-de-Martel, Couvet and Les Eplatures Est in La Chaux-de-Fonds. This measure was taken following an explosive attack on an ATM in La Brévine, in which a local resident was injured.
BCN is not the only bank in the Jura Arc to restrict its ATM network. Following the bomb attacks in Alle and Pruntrut JU, the Cantonal Bank of Jura also announced in May that it was closing several ATMs and branches until further notice.
In May alone, at least seven ATMs were blown up in Switzerland. The perpetrators struck in north-western Switzerland in particular. In addition to the attacks in La Brévine, Alle, Pruntrut and Le Noirmont JU, they also broke into two ATMs in Basel and one in Eptingen BL.
