New temperature records for January at 1000 meters and higher

In many places, it has never been this warm at this altitude in January. According to MeteoSwiss, temperatures of up to 16 degrees were measured on Wednesday. The thermometer in Piotta in Ticino rose to 16.4 degrees at 990 meters and in Disentis in Graubünden to 15.4 degrees at 1197 meters.
In Piotta, the record set in January 2015 was exceeded by 0.8 degrees and in Disentis by 1.2 degrees, as the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (MeteoSwiss) reported on Wednesday.
In Zermatt in Valais, at 1638 meters above sea level, 13.4 degrees were measured on Wednesday, 2.2 degrees more than the last record in January 2002. 11.1 degrees were measured in Samedan, Graubünden, at 1709 meters, compared to 10.9 degrees in January 2002.
According to the weather service Meteonews, it was mildest in Giswil with south-westerly foehn winds at 17.8 degrees. The Obwalden municipality lies at an altitude of 485 meters. In Lucerne, 16.7 degrees were measured at 4 p.m. and in Bern-Belpmoos 15 degrees.
