The Swiss Parliament has rejected demands from the Swiss People's Party (SVP) to adjust the country's migration policy. They have refused to increase control of immigration or to conduct asylum procedures abroad. Both the Council of States and the National Council rejected two motions from the SVP after an emotional debate. The SVP had called for an independent Swiss control of immigration, with annual limits and quotas, in line with the 2014 Mass Immigration Initiative. Gregor Rutz (ZH) proposed a second motion to explore the possibility of conducting asylum procedures abroad, possibly in collaboration with other countries, in order to combat human trafficking. The Council also rejected the FDP's proposal to reject all asylum applications from people who have entered from safe third countries. In summary, the Swiss Parliament has rejected the SVP's demands to adjust the country's migration policy, including increasing control of immigration and conducting asylum procedures abroad. They have also rejected the FDP's proposal to reject all asylum applications from people who have entered from safe third countries.
