The Geneva Greens lost their seat in the small chamber in the second round of the Council of States elections on Sunday. Lisa Mazzone, previously a member of the Council of States, came third. Her seat went to the bourgeois protest party Mouvement citoyens genevois.

Their candidate, the former State Councillor Mauro Poggia, who is very popular in Geneva, came first with 55,317 votes and a clear lead over his competitors. The second-placed SP representative, Carlo Sommaruga, received 46,423 votes.

Mazzone (45,300 votes) received around 1,000 votes fewer than her partner on the red-green ticket. In the first round of voting, the 35-year-old Green was narrowly ahead of the 64-year-old Social Democrat.

With 40,317 votes, SVP politician Céline Amaudruz, the second representative of the conservative alliance, had no chance. The two candidates from the Liberté - Le Peuple d'abord (Liberty - The People First) list finished far behind in last place. Chloé Frammery received 4225 votes, while Anastasia-Natalia Ventouri received 3275 votes.

At 37.06 percent, voter turnout was lower than in the first round with 40.82 percent.
