The Zurich cantonal police arrested nine people with forged passports and their suspected smuggler at Zurich Airport on Sunday morning. The two to 50-year-old travelers from Somalia and Kenya were about to fly to Dublin.
They did not have the documents required to enter Ireland, as the cantonal police reported on Wednesday. They had previously arrived in Zurich from Dubai with valid documents. The suspected smuggler had accompanied them.
According to the authorities' suspicions, the 39-year-old Swedish-Somali dual citizen handed them the forged documents and planned to travel on to Dublin with them. The forgeries were discovered during passport control. He and his traveling companion were arrested.
Initial investigations revealed that the 39-year-old may be responsible for other smuggling offenses. The cantonal police and the Zurich-Limmat public prosecutor's office are continuing their investigations.
