Police arrest man after bloodbath in Sion

A woman and a man were killed in a shooting in Sion on Monday morning. Another woman was injured. The police were able to arrest the suspected perpetrator in the afternoon.

The 36-year-old man, who apparently knew his victims, fled after the crime. The cantonal police of Valais searched for the perpetrator with a large contingent and were also supported by the Vaud police. In the afternoon, the wanted man was arrested by the intercommunal police of Crans-Montana in the St-Léonard region at around 4.00 pm.

The Valais cantonal police had previously asked the public for help by publishing a photo of the suspected perpetrator on their website, together with his name and details of the possible getaway car.

Three victims from Valais

The man shot at the two women and the man in two different locations in the Valais capital shortly after 7 a.m. for reasons as yet unknown, according to the cantonal police.

The perpetrator first opened fire on a woman in a parking lot in Rue Oscar-Bider in Sion. She suffered a fatal gunshot wound. A few minutes later, a man was also shot at a second crime scene, while a woman was also injured by a gunshot.

The victims killed were a 34-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man. Both were resident in central Valais. The injured victim is a 49-year-old woman from Valais who lives in the region.

Perpetrator knew victim

The exact background to the crime was initially unclear. According to the police, the perpetrator initially knew his victims. According to various media reports, one of the crime scenes was a painting and plastering business in Sion. The victims are said to be employees of this company.

The public prosecutor opened an investigation into murder, with a subsidiary charge of intentional homicide.
