The police arrested two young people before Pride in Zurich last weekend. The reason was "serious threats" against the event.
At the request of Keystone-SDA, a spokeswoman for the Zurich cantonal youth prosecutor's office confirmed a corresponding report in the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper on Thursday. The two young people are still in custody and investigations are ongoing. The Office of the Juvenile Prosecutor is not currently providing any further information.
Those arrested are a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old Swiss national, both of whom live in the city of Zurich. Nothing is known about the exact nature of the threats, the ideological background of the suspects or other circumstances.
The relatively high security precautions for Pride on Saturday were striking. Barriers were set up around Helvetiaplatz so that no vehicles could drive onto the square. Police officers with machine guns were also on site.
