A police dog saved the life of a fugitive in the Sembrancher VS region on the night of December 13-14. The man had fled into the forest on foot after a traffic accident and was found asleep but safe and sound.

The police were alerted to a traffic accident on the road to the Great St. Bernard Pass at around 01:50 on December 14. Witnesses told the patrol that the driver had fled on foot in the direction of the forest, the cantonal police reported on Monday.

The dog squadron was mobilized, not least because of the icy temperatures. The police dog picked up a scent that led the officers to an area with a steep slope. A police dog then indicated a hidden cavity in which the officers found the fugitive sleeping.

"Thanks to Rocky's instinct, the person was found unharmed despite the difficult conditions. Without the dog's quick intervention, the person would most likely not have survived the freezing temperatures of the night," concluded the cantonal police.
