For 1500 gay, bisexual and queer men, broad social acceptance of their community is a high priority. Respondents to a Pink Cross study are concerned about the deteriorating climate when it comes to LGBTIQ+ issues.

The fear of regression and concerns about violence and discrimination are clearly palpable, Pink Cross research director Gaé Colussi was quoted as saying in a press release on Thursday.

The survey shows the role a community plays for gay, bisexual and queer men, wrote the aid organization Pink Cross. A sense of belonging still exists and is particularly evident in mutual understanding. However, the community is far from being uniform. It offers a space for support and friendships in which it is easier to be yourself.

The gay community has a variety of relationship forms, including open and exclusive relationships as well as polyamorous constellations. These forms are fulfilling for those surveyed and lead to great satisfaction. However, this diversity is not yet legally recognized or protected, according to Florian Vock, member of the Pink Cross board.

The survey was launched by Pink Cross to mark its 30th anniversary in 2023. Almost 1,500 gay, bisexual and queer men took part in the survey. This makes the study one of the largest surveys in Switzerland in this target group. It looked in particular at the relationship of queer men to the community, their relationships and friendships and their expectations for the future.

The abbreviation LGBTIQ* stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex people. The asterisk is a placeholder for other identities and genders.
