According to a study, Swiss retailers are not fully passing on the higher costs in Switzerland to consumers. According to the industry association, this exacerbates competition.
According to the study, local retailers would have to bear 50 percent higher costs than their competitors abroad, according to a press release issued on Tuesday. However, the prices for customers are only 35 percent higher.
The study was conducted by the BAK Economics research institute on behalf of the Swiss Retail Federation. It took into account the procurement of goods in Switzerland and abroad as well as labor and input costs.
Swiss retailers are therefore under high cost pressure compared to their competitors in neighboring countries, writes the Swiss Retail Federation. This is leading to tougher competition.
The Swiss Retail Federation represents 1600 retail companies with 6500 locations in Switzerland. The major distributors are not included.
