Due to the prolonged rainfall, the Rhine at Basel has reached flood level IIb. Navigation upstream on the Rhine was therefore closed. Forecasts predict a further increase in the flood level, as can be seen from the water level statistics of the Swiss Rhine ports on Tuesday evening.
The water level statistics predict a provisional high of 864 centimetres at the relevant Rhine Hall measuring station for Wednesday afternoon. From 820 centimetres, a complete closure of navigation between Rheinfelden and the Kembs lock in France is planned.
On Tuesday evening, the emergency app Alertswiss also warned the population of the dangers of high water on the Rhine and called on them to observe barriers.
