Rahul Sahgal replaces Martin Naville as head of the Swiss-US Chamber of Commerce on Thursday. Naville had held the post for 20 years. His successor Sahgal has had a diplomatic career, among other things.

He worked in Brussels, Bern and Washington, as the Swiss Consulate General in New York announced on the short message service X on Wednesday. Sahgal was appointed by the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce.

Born in India, Sahgal studied at the University of St. Gallen and completed his doctorate on Swiss companies in India. After working in the financial sector, he headed the Indian business of the spinning machine manufacturer Rieter.

He became a diplomat in 2013. From 2014 to 2017, he was Deputy Head of the Human Security Division at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). He then spent four years in Washington as an embassy counselor. Since 2021, he has worked at the State Secretariat for International Financial Matters (SIF).

Martin Naville is 65 years old. He announced his resignation as head of the Chamber of Commerce last November. The USA is the most important trading partner for the Swiss economy. Many companies generate a large part of their turnover in the USA.
