The SBB and BLS have suspended all train services through Biel station since Saturday 4th October due to work on power lines. This disruption is expected to last until Monday 4th October, and will cause delays of 15-30 minutes for passengers. 50 replacement buses have been provided to help passengers get to their destinations. The work is necessary to strengthen the power supply in anticipation of increased train traffic in the coming years. 8km of new power lines are being installed and 4km of old lines are being removed. Teams are working around the clock to complete the work. To reduce disruption to passengers, the SBB and the city of Biel have agreed to provide free transport of luggage and bicycles for people living in Biel and neighbouring municipalities, as well as to Zurich and Geneva airports. Goods trains have been rerouted and regional trains between Biel and Täuffelen-Ins are running as normal. The shops and lighting in the station remain operational. The SBB have noted that weekends and holidays are the best times to carry out such work, as there are fewer commuters travelling.
