In an interview, SBB CEO Vincent Ducrot has expressed concerns about the negotiations with the European Union. He fears that international traffic could overtake Swiss rail traffic.

The fundamental problem is that all train paths in Switzerland are already occupied, said Ducrot in an interview with "Le Temps" published on Wednesday. The European Union (EU) has demanded that Switzerland partially liberalize international rail transport.

For example, several European rail companies would like to make offers for the route between Geneva and Paris, said the SBB boss. However, in order to allow an additional train through, a train would have to be canceled.

In addition, prioritization of international transport is being considered at EU level, said Ducrot. Switzerland would have to respect this. Currently, national regular-interval traffic has priority in Switzerland. International traffic comes last, said Ducrot.
