Scienceindustries, the trade association for the chemical, pharmaceutical and life sciences industries, sees the material conclusion of negotiations with the EU as an important signal for Switzerland. This could enable barrier-free access for chemical and pharmaceutical companies to the most important export market, secure the free movement of persons and deepen European research cooperation once again.

The regular updating of the agreement on the mutual recognition of conformity assessments is particularly important for Switzerland as a business location, according to a press release issued on Friday. This will continue to facilitate market access conditions and reduce administrative hurdles and costs for Swiss companies. In contrast, the discontinuation of the agreement would result in additional costs for the industry amounting to several hundred million francs per year.

Greater access to the European electricity market would improve security of supply and thus increase planning security for key industries such as chemicals and pharmaceuticals. It was also pleasing that Swiss industry and knowledge could once again count on closer cooperation with the EU. The prospect of Switzerland's full association with EU research programs will secure Switzerland's long-term competitiveness and attractiveness as a business location.
