Second Round Necessary for a Schaffhausen Council of States Seat

Thomas Minder, the independent Schaffhausen state councillor, failed to be re-elected and must now face a second round of voting. Hannes Germann (SVP) was easily re-elected, while Thomas Hurter (SVP) and Martina Munz (SP) kept their seats in the National Council. Minder, who is known as the author of the "Abzockerinitiative", received 12,045 votes, placing him third behind SP candidate Simon Stocker, who received 13,456 votes. Germann received 15,490 votes, the absolute majority. Nina Schärrer (FDP) and Lisa Brühlmann (Young Greens) received 6,152 and 3,517 votes respectively. The turnout was 67.75%.

In the National Council, Thomas Hurter (SVP) and Martina Munz (SP) were re-elected as expected, with 21,425 and 17,316 votes respectively. The turnout was 61.63%. The SVP remained the strongest party, receiving 32.96% of the vote on their main list, and 39.07% when including their five other lists. The SP received 26.64%, gaining 1.61%. In total, 13 women and 25 men ran on 20 lists.
