Security guards thwart arson attack on synagogue in Zurich

A man poured petrol outside the synagogue in Zurich Wiedikon at 8.00 p.m. on Saturday evening. Security guards surprised him and prevented a possible arson attack.
The man then fled, a spokeswoman for the Zurich city police confirmed to the Keystone-SDA news agency. The 32-year-old Swiss national was arrested by the Zurich cantonal police early on Sunday morning.
According to initial investigations, the "apparently mentally disturbed" perpetrator acted alone and there was no extremist motive in the foreground, the city police said.
