Selensky: Dialogue with Putin is pointless

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has reiterated the futility of a dialog with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin under the current circumstances. "The world is waiting for Ukraine to present a compromise plan on how to end the war tomorrow," he said at an event in Kiev. "It's not that there are no compromises with Putin, but with Putin, the dialog today is empty, meaningless, because he doesn't want to end the war diplomatically." Although Putin is willing to engage in diplomatic negotiations, he wants to keep 30 percent of Ukraine. "And we will not play along with him," emphasized Selenskyj.

In Zelenskyi's opinion, the Ukrainian advance into the western Russian region of Kursk has silenced many voices that previously wanted peace at Kiev's expense. "The Kursk operation has helped us a lot to ensure that the number of voices on this issue is reduced," Selenskyj was quoted as saying by the Unian agency.

Ukraine is trying to have its own peace plan approved by the international community. At the Ukraine peace conference in Switzerland in June, numerous countries already agreed to this plan, although Russia is not involved in these negotiations. The peace plan from Kiev provides for the withdrawal of Russian troops from all areas of Ukraine, including Crimea. In addition, Russia is to agree to reparations payments. Finally, all those responsible for the war in Moscow - politicians and military officers alike - are to answer to an international court.
