The Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB) describes the Yes vote to its initiative for a 13th AHV pension as a clear commitment to the AHV. The population wants good pensions. The SGB expects the initiative to be implemented quickly. And the question of the retirement age is off the table for it.

The Federal Council and parliamentary majority had ignored the pension problem for too long, the SGB announced on Sunday. The result and the high turnout clearly showed that those who have worked all their lives deserve a decent pension.

The majority of the population expect politicians to implement this quickly. However, this has not yet solved the purchasing power problems. Wages need to catch up and the burden of health insurance premiums has exceeded the pain threshold.

The trade union umbrella organization Travailsuisse saw the results of the vote on the two pension initiatives as a sign that the population rejects further cuts to the pension system. The opponents' scare scenarios for the AHV had not been successful.

The No to the Young Liberals' pension initiative is a clear signal against further increases in the retirement age. The initiative would have exacerbated social inequalities. High earners would have continued to retire earlier, while poorer people would have had to work significantly longer. Travailsuisse also expects that the ruling will put a higher retirement age off the table.
