People over the age of 40 account for more than half of all injuries on Swiss ski slopes. And their share continues to rise: from 39 percent in 2003 to 56 percent in 2022, as Suva warns.

In an evaluation published on Monday, the Swiss Accident Insurance Fund (Suva) points out that older sportsmen and women (age group 40-64) are at a higher risk of serious injuries and long-term consequences.

According to the study, around 35,000 people are injured on the ski slopes in Switzerland every year. Lack of preparation, fatigue or overestimation are the causes.

The Suva analysis shows: More and more older skiers and snowboarders are having accidents and missing half a million days at work every year.
