A snowshoe hiker who had been missing since Sunday was recovered dead on the Stanserhorn in the canton of Nidwalden on Tuesday. The bad weather had made the search for the 27-year-old mountaineer, who lived in the canton of Zurich, more difficult.
As the Nidwalden cantonal police announced on Wednesday, the man had been missing since Sunday. The Zurich cantonal police were able to locate him on the Stanserhorn on Monday. Due to the weather conditions, the missing man was only located in the Katzenloch area on Tuesday and later recovered dead, the police said.
The exact circumstances of the accident are the subject of a police investigation, according to the statement. Police from Zurich and Nidwalden, Rega and a private helicopter company were deployed.
