The day after agreement was reached on a social plan for the employees affected by the closure of the Vetropack plant in St-Prex VD, the Unia and Syna trade unions commented positively on the process. The mobilization was worthwhile. The social plan is "significantly better" than the company's initial plans.
It was mainly thanks to a seven-day strike that the workforce managed to postpone the redundancies by a month and negotiate a genuine social plan, the Unia and Syna unions announced in a joint statement on Sunday.
Vetropack announced on Saturday evening that an agreement had been reached on a social plan for the St-Prex site. The social plan includes all the elements already announced in mid-May, such as severance payments, bonuses and benefits in the event of early retirement. A special job center will support employees in their search for new jobs.
According to the trade unions, the social plan that has been adopted provides for severance payments that are "far higher" than the Group's previous social plans. However, the acceptance of this social plan does not change the "great regret" about the closure of Vetropack's last Swiss glassworks.
The closure of the factory in St-Prex, which was confirmed in mid-May, will lead to the loss of around 180 jobs. Half of the contracts will be terminated by August 31. The remaining jobs will be cut in stages until 2026 to allow the machines and systems to be dismantled.
