The long-running dispute over the abolition of the imputed rental value could soon come to an end. The responsible committee of the Council of States wants to approve a compromise proposal from the National Council, which proposes a complete change of system.

For a long time, the two chambers of parliament did not agree on whether the imputed rental value should also be abolished for second homes. The National Council was in favor, the Council of States against - at least until now. A solution is now emerging.

The Economic Affairs Committee of the Council of States (WAK-S) voted 9 to 4 in favor of a complete system change, as the parliamentary services announced on Tuesday. The condition for this is that the cantons are simultaneously given the option of levying a property tax on second homes. The National Council has already approved a corresponding constitutional basis. The WAK-S requested by 8 votes to 4 that this decision be followed.

The deal could be settled in the winter session - after years of back and forth.
