SP Holds Majority of Longest-Serving Members of National Council

Five of the six oldest elected members of the National Council are Social Democrats: Bruno Storni (TI), Laurence Fehlmann-Rielle (GE), Martina Munz (SH), Brigitte Crottaz (VD) and Pierre-Alain Fridez (JU) are all 65 years of age or older. The oldest member of the Swiss National Council comes from the conservative camp: 76-year-old Charles Poncet from Geneva (SVP) is the oldest, according to the data from the Swiss National Council election on Sunday from the Federal Statistical Office. Among the recently elected members of the National Council, no party stands out. Three of the elected are younger than 30 years old: 26-year-old Katja Riem (SVP/BE), 29-year-old Andri Silberschmidt (ZH/FDP) and the same age Samira Marti (BL/SP). Following them are Mike Egger (SVP/SG) at 31 years old, as well as 32-year-olds Franziska Ryser (Green/SG) and Benjamin Fischer (SVP/SG). ©Keystone/SDA
