Stadler Rail has received orders from Switzerland for further trains. These are follow-up orders from Berner Oberland-Bahnen (BOB) and Rhätische Bahn (RhB).
Stadler is supplying Berner Oberland-Bahnen with four three-car multiple-unit trains that can also run on rack-and-pinion lines. The order is worth 38.6 million Swiss francs, as can be seen from an entry on simap.ch, the information system on public procurement in Switzerland. The "St. Galler Tagblatt" first reported on this on Thursday (today).
The BOB awarded the contract by private treaty on December 29, i.e. without prior tendering. This is because it is an extension of an existing design and supply contract for six identical multiple units by an additional four vehicles.
The train manufacturer from eastern Switzerland has also been granted an option by the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) for a further 6 multiple-unit trains. The price amounts to CHF 66 million. The additional trainsets are identical and compatible with the RTZ ABe 4/16 trainsets already ordered, according to simap.ch. The contract was awarded last Tuesday.
