The first national days of action for the rights of people with disabilities will take place in Switzerland from Wednesday. Around a thousand campaigns will be organized over the course of a month.

The goal is an inclusive future, according to the organizers' website. The 20th anniversary of the Disability Equality Act and the 10th anniversary of Switzerland's ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will be celebrated on May 14, as the Federal Bureau for the Equality of Persons with Disabilities (EBGB) announced in advance.

"The whole country is sending a strong signal for equality, participation and accessibility," it said in a press release. The month of action kicks off on Wednesday in Zurich. A closing event is planned for June 15 at Palexpo in Geneva, which will also be attended by Interior Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider.

The campaigns were initiated by people with disabilities, their organizations and the public sector. They range from speed dating and crash courses in sign language to museum and city tours. Meetings of people with disabilities in cantonal parliaments, jogging for the blind or sailing on Lake Constance are also organized.

The project is supported by the EBGB and the Conference of Cantonal Directors of Social Affairs (SODK).
