The trial of a 49-year-old man for murder began on Monday morning at the district court of Baden AG. He is alleged to have killed his wife in the family home in Bergdietikon in the fall of 2022. The public prosecutor is demanding a prison sentence of 18 years
The 49-year-old was led in handcuffs and shackles into the courtroom at the cantonal police station in Schafisheim AG, where the district court in Baden is sitting this week. The public is excluded from the hearing, but the media are admitted.
The first person to be questioned by the court was a former employee of the victim. She reported that the couple had separated but had stayed in the same house because of their two sons.
After the authorities had initially assumed that the 41-year-old wife had committed suicide, the perpetrator - a Swiss national from North Macedonia - was arrested one day after the crime. Forensic experts had found signs of death by strangulation. According to the public prosecutor's office, the accused has confessed.
