North of the Visletto Bridge, which collapsed as a result of the storms, a temporary bridge is to be built by the Swiss army over the next few weeks. The Ticino emergency staff were still unable to present a precise timetable on Wednesday.
On the one hand, the construction of such a bridge normally takes several months, Diego Rodoni, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, told the media in Locarno on Wednesday.
On the other hand, it is not yet clear what kind of subsoil will be found below the surface. Due to the high water level of the Maggia, these investigations could not have been carried out so quickly.
The temporary bridge is designed to last for around a year, continued Rodoni. It would be a "matter of weeks" before the bridge was up.
