On Saturday in Aarau, the delegates of the Swiss People's Party (SVP) clearly voted in favor of the expansion of the motorway network. There were 384 votes in favor, one against and three abstentions. Swiss voters will decide on the proposal on November 24.

Federal Councillor and Transport Minister Albert Rösti said that the national roads are the lifeline of the economy. The current traffic jams must be resolved. The targeted expansion of the national roads at critical points should make traffic flow more smoothly. The six expansion projects will cost CHF 4.9 billion.

National Councillor Benjamin Giezendanner (AG), speaking in favor, said that the expansion would increase road safety and improve the population's quality of life. The bottlenecks would have to be eliminated. Due to excessive immigration, the capacity of the roads was no longer sufficient.

Speaking against, GLP National Councillor Beat Flach (AG) stated that car traffic had increased more than the number of inhabitants. The expansion was not a recipe for the future. No car journey begins and ends on the highway.

Several delegates spoke eloquently in favor of the expansion at the meeting.
